WHAT DOES ABODA DO ?
ABODA provides a valuable and reliable network both on a State and
National level.
The organisation operates in-services and clinics on a regular basis,
including the annual summer conducting schools. ABODA conducts a national
conference (ANBOC) bi-annually, with a State conference occurring every
other year. Internationally-renowned conductors and clinicians are used at
these events.
The NSW Branch publishes a quarterly
newsletter, "Conducting Notes". Our newsletter contains
information about local issues, concerts, reviews, visits and
in-services. National ABODA also publishes a newsletter, dealing
with national and international issues and interests.
HOW DOES ABODA OPERATE ?
ABODA was founded in 1985. The organisation is made up of over 800 members
Australia-wide, including over 150 in New South Wales. State Branches also
operate in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. Representatives
from each State Branch form the National Executive. National ABODA
formulates broad policy and maintains important links with overseas
organisations, including the Asia Pacific Band Directors Association (APBDA),
the National Band Association (NBA) and the World Association of Symphonic
Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).
Membership subscriptions are the main source of revenue for ABODA. A
percentage of each membership goes to National ABODA. Sponsorship is
sought for specific events and advertising plays an important part in the
operation of the newsletters. ABODA membership is fully tax deductible for
personal enrolments, however many schools and community groups choose to
contribute for their ensemble directors' enrolment.
